And so the garden grew . . .

and the grass continues to be slowly out competed by the new beds of newspaper and mulch. Lots of plants later, it was time for more
hardscaping and a reason to do something with the piles of rocks we collected every time we dug a hole. After much consideration and help from my brother, we added a
pondless waterfall. That's right - a hole filled with gravel to avoid standing water and a pump that recycles the water back to the top. (We will we able to turn power off and on after we run the electrical connection. Someday.) Lots of
re-purposed boulders from the family farm. We found a place for some of the fancy rocks my husband collects. 'Do you know how much that rock is worth?', he asks. Not having aced my geology class in college, I answer 'No. It's got pretty little flecks.' And the husband just shakes his head in disgust, mumbling something about sedentary versus igneous under his breath.
We also have room for the fire pit next to the water feature; the closest this garden is getting to
feng shui.
