About a month ago, I noticed that the arborvitae next to the garage was looking horrid with brown leaves drooping down. Lack of water, I thought. But upon closer inspection, I noticed the brown pods seen in the photo at left. Remembering how moths flew out of the nearby pot of annuals, I put two and two together and realized these are cocoons all over the bush. My mother-in-law suggested they may be 'bag bugs' and need to be cut down before they overtake the bush. Yuck. Could they be protein for the composter?
