Garden Spring 2006- A New Hope

So I revised my plan to avoid formal hedges and instead added the raised vegetable beds and some loose grouping of plants I like to call garden beds. Some of these plants will continue to grow quite tall but if they are not a row of the same plant, I figured I could get away with some screening at least. We do like to sit on the deck without feeling we are on display. Notice how that big blue house seems to be just looking over our shoulder. (above)
We felled the blighted box elder in the front yard and I started my long fight to wrest some dirt away from the grass and weeds. (below) The neighbors had to come check out what I was doing to the front lawn but since the rules don't have a provision against it, c'est la vie. My husband brought a pin oak and a lilac from his grandparents' farm in Delaware County along with alot of field boulders. We also had some limestone blocks from an old church wall. Every wonder what rolling boulders do in the trunk of a car for 20 miles? But the results below show how that ribbon grass is contained once I moved it from the front. (before and after below)
And at least some spring flowers started to look like something was happening!
