4. Mystery - The Secret Garden

This kids' book is all about getting over that hedge to explore what is on the other side. Mythical creatures, clues to a riddle, old secrets. The mystery remains even after the area has been explored because the place itself becomes more comfortable, familiar and suggestive of the level of mystery. The explorer stays to find the deeper mystery and then the next one and . . . How to do this in a suburban lot squished in with all the neighbors? This principle I find more difficult than others. I try to use paths with partially concealed views. I suppose the other idea is to keep adding to the scene. This seems to be difficult with limited enclosure. I keep working at it.
