6. Focal point - The Odyssey


Ironically, I read Homer's Odyssey while on vacation with my family, driving across the plains, in summer ,in the old station wagon. Hard not to link these two journeys in my memory. Odysseus stops several places to best some villains and then inevitably says "Oh right. Got to get home now. See you." and he's off again to strike off toward home. Not too different from how the well-places focal point of a garden can keep the eyes going back to circle a space. I try to plan the garden beds with a focal point for each and then larger ones for the whole end of a yard. (photo bearded iris left by previous owners)
